The term "nerd" is used to deride someone for being smart or for being interested in learning something. It also implies "dork" (also an 80's term) for flavor. Sort of like "all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares."<br />I can't believe I just seriously explained that to someone. As a nerd and a dork, I just thought I would clarify things a little.<br /><br />I just hope that Singaporean 21st Century Individuals don't end up like the US 21st Century Individuals... I can't help but say that the words/phrases "21st Century" and "Individual" do not describe our society right now. It has very little to do with who seems to be in charge or how much technology we haven't developed, but more to do with the way that we strive to poison our minds, our hearts, and our bodies (moreso our minds.) Sometimes, there seems to be nothing individual about us either. We're still pointing out nerds, geeks, dorks, liberals, wingnuts, and minorities. By marginialising individuality, we are failing to be free thinkers.<br />Maybe, I also have a masters in failure.
