The value of &%$?@$%¢#!
I was watching Jeeves and Wooster last night (one of my favourite shows) and there was a scene where 'Wooster' exclaims, 'Blasted!' and all the women present, including Aunt Agatha, took great exception to it (see video below - "Bertie! Kindly restrain your language!"...which can be paraphrased with, "Kindly restrain your passion/opposition").
Now, literally, there is nothing vulgar about 'Blast' - unless, of course, it was to be expressed through one's rear end in a crowded restaurant during the main course, and within earshot of all present. But i suppose it is the expression of passion and and vigour that might at times seem vulgar to the relatively dispassionate. I suppose the curtailment of passion does, in a way, vasectomise and ligate the population into political and perspectival impotence, whilst rendering them objective enough to do their best to put up with a bad situation with a cool head instead of attempting to get rid of said bad situation.

The ‘pig on the kabaa’ issue and the value of overt nonsensical racism
Singapore Police Force is investigating blogger and chief editor of New Asia Republic, Donaldson Tan for re-posting an extremely offensive picture to Muslims; one of a prohibited animal in Islam, superimposed on the Ka’ba – Islam’s most sacred site, on his Facebook. In his report to the police, the complainant, Amran Junid, also highlighted a Serena Lee for posting racist comments on that FB post by Donaldson Tan. - toc
Whilst I have retired from this issue, it would be irresponsible of myself to not comment on related matters as and when it requires address beyond the capablility of the 'insightful bloggers' and 'opposition' in singapore.

How 'disgusting' maintains the hegemony of 'modernity'
Originally "disgust" was used to express distaste for rotten food or filth. Today it's deployed against looters, phone hackers and others whose actions many find morally murky. So how did the meaning change so much? - bbc: Disgust: How did the word change so completely?

on Women making ‘excellent entrepreneurs’
(part of the following was placed as a comment beneath the ‘Mashable’ article, ‘Why Women Make Excellent Entrepreneurs in the Digital Age’)
The positive ‘traditional’ traits of women become negative ones when such traits are molded to fit and succeed in a patriarchal/capitalist status quo.

Death Penalty up for Hire in the UK again?
![]() |
| click on image for latest update |
“The government is facing fresh demands to bring back the death penalty.
Five Democratic Unionist MPs from Northern Ireland have signed a motion calling for a full debate in the Commons on the matter.
More than 23,000 people have signed a government e-petition urging the return of capital punishment, but more than 30,000 have signed a counter-motion rejecting the idea.” - bbc
Well, the ‘anti-death penalty’ movement in the UK has gone slightly past the ‘pro-let’s murder the murderers’ movement. The former, at the moment, stands at 30, 865 (with ed being the 30, 865th...or thereabouts)

This ‘Guy Fawkes Night’ thing, and 'activists' who don Guy Fawkes masks
Poor Guy Fawkes, he was tortured and execute for attempting to do the elite what the elite was accustomed to doing to the people.
Well, he wanted to reinstate a Catholic monarch in place of the pseudo-Christian Protestant one. Oh, and let’s not forget, the ‘parliament’ he wanted to blow up isn’t the sort of ‘parliament’ that represented the people. It was simply a concern that looked after the interests of the elite. Oh, wait a minute, looks like nothing has changed since then.
