on SG expats living the best of both worlds, and the Indian persona

The following is an article from the fascist-scum site, Temasek Review. Ed's comment, as placed beneath the article, follows.

A Singapore-based magazine, Pardesi Pulse (http://www.pardesipulse.com) has published an article on the Indian expatriate community in Singapore. Pardesi’s main focus is on the Indian Diaspora. It is distributed free on charge in various locations in Singapore. The article is published in the April/May 2011 issue and written by Aprajita Anil. The title is “Expat Indians living the best of both worlds”.

The diff between being anti-death penalty and anti-Mandatory death penalty

ed’s thoughts, in consideration of the following thoughts by ‘Solo Bear’ and ‘SooJenn’ on the entitled matter, as posted on 'solo bear's' site, follows. It has been elaborated upon here for clarity.

Solo Bear: Some months back, I was reading about Yong Vui Kong's case and the issue appears to be about the MANDATORY death penalty. It has been argued that with the MANDATORY death penalty, if the court finds one guilty of possession of more than 15g of heroin, he is to be hanged. There's no such thing as a penalty lesser than that for the judge to hand out.

Why ed prefers 'foreigner' dominance in SG economy

updated: 23 May, 7.25pm SG time

“A furore has been sparked on the internet over the recent spate of job listings which specifically indicate a preference for foreigners....With the recent influx of foreign talent into Singapore, there has also been an increase in the number of “foreigners only” job openings. Singaporeans have always been very accommodating towards foreigners, but action needs to be taken in order to prevent us from becoming second-class citizens in our own country. He has been admitted to a Masters program at the London School of Economics.)” - satay club

Is it fair to fine fat people for not dieting?

“Overweight welfare claimants in the US state of Arizona face paying $50 (£31) fines if they don't follow a dietary regime laid down by their doctor. Is that fair?” - bbc

Nope. Not fair.

Fat people fall into 2 categories. Those whom have some medical condition, or medicine-induced condition, that causes them to be fat, or should we say, ‘slim-challenged’, size 10 and below-challenged’.....

Q&A: Race issue SG

The following are responses to some most insightful questions by 'Vaderzzz' posted in the comments section in the a2ed article, 'on Malay Cultural and Racial Introversion'.

1) What do you suggest the Malay/Indian/ Eurasian communities here in Singapore do to promote their culture? Or is this a lost cause here?

on Malay Cultural and Racial Introversion

The following article is inspired by consideration of a post by 'The Rot Within'. An abridged version of the thoughts below have been placed as a comment in the aforementioned.

"Lee Kuan Yew in 1988, defending the introduction of GRCs: “when [Muslims] feel differently and want to eat separate from me, I respect them.”
In 2011:
Mr Lee then went on to speak of how his own generation of politicians who worked with him had integrated well, including sitting down and eating together. He said: “But now, you go to schools with Malay and Chinese, there’s a halal and non-halal segment and so too, the universities. And they tend to sit separately so as not to be contaminated. All that becomes a social divide.”
He added that the result was a “veil” across peoples. Asked what Muslims in Singapore needed to do to integrate, he replied: “Be less strict on Islamic observances and say ‘Okay, I’ll eat with you.’”

Why we supported the PAP, and should we always go with the greater evil to change the lesser one

An acquaintance of mine - Sim - called me, through Skype, yesterday on the way to the polling station. He wanted to clarify my position as stated in the previous article - ‘ed says, ‘No to Singapore’s Opposition’, ‘Yes to PAP’. He was going to vote for the opposition - as i myself had in the past....i have supported the opposition since my late teens more than a couple of decades ago - but after a short chat, and my clarifying that we’d have to go for the greater evil - PAP - so as to send the opposition the message that they can only call themselves an alternative to the PAP if they’d stop being the racist/racially biased/xenophobic product of it.

ed says, ‘No to Singapore’s Opposition’, ‘Yes to PAP’.

An email from an indian singaporean,

Dear Ed,

The singapore elections will be in less than a week. Hope you will vote even though you are in UK, and do please vote for the opposition candidate in your area!

Although you may be afraid of the opposition not protecting minority rights if they are voted into power, it cannot get any worse than the PAP's track record of pretending to protect minority rights while doing just the opposite. PAP only pretends that it is serving the interests of the minority, when in reality they are slyly and underhandedly promoting the interests of the ethnic Han majority, the interests of the PRC, and their own financial interests as well. This is our chance for vengeance.

This election, the opposition parties have many god quality candidates to choose from (better than in the past). They are credible and aren't motivated by money. Let's give them a chance to prove themselves this time around.

Best regards,

xxx

Red, White, and Blue Superhero triumphs over Green Goblin

When i first heard of Bin Laden’s death yesterday morning, when V told me, I just brushed if off with an, ‘He was already killed a long time ago. This is just bullshit propaganda by those dumb americans.’ I immediately thought that there wouldn’t be a body, and this morning, true enough, i read that those americans buried the blighter at sea. But dumb americans aside, i know that there would be many smart ones who’d know as I do. Two possibilities: they either killed him off long ago and waited till now to say they finally killed him, or, they've always known where he was and waited till now to kill him.
