The none-too-new, Spider-Girl
download epub version
A new comic series has hit the stands in the U.S. and the U.K. Spider-girl, starring Anya Corazon, a Latina - good, superheroes don’t have to be ‘white’ to be able to jump over the moon anymore.
But I have to wonder after people who think that everyone ought to be represented whilst not wondering if this is nothing but an assimilation strategy, or amounts to the same thing.

Ipad & the commodification of shortcomings
download epub version
“Apple’s next-generation version of the iPad, presumably due in early 2011, should ship with improvements that make up for the first generation’s shortcomings.”
says ZDnet.
Words. When what might be regarded as abnormal is rendered normal, words that might incriminate, are replaced with words that excuse.
That’s what came to mind when Apple’s ‘Ipad’s’ ‘shortcomings’ were spoken about in ZDnet’s article, ‘The next generation iPad and what Apple needs to deliver.’

ebook: The Principles of Communism, Friedrich Engels
This is most certainly an interesting book by Engels, and served to explain that which might refute claims that the USSR or China, amongst others, were truly communist states, along with global media misinformation.
For myself, when i first came across this book about a couple of decades ago, it served to challenge my own conceptions of what was natural, or to be appreciated as the 'logical choice' amongst systems. I would not fully support all views contained, but, in the spirit of dialectical thought, I would say that the fusion of various ideas from various schools of thought would be preferable to simply preferring any status quo as 'right' just because we have formulated strategies of coping and compensation to put up with it, and through it, are moulded in such a way that we cannot conceptualise ourselves within alternative systems that might be of greater aid in our maximal development.
I've formatted this ebook (my first effort), in 'epub' format with clickable 'Table of Contents', and 'back to TOC' links for convenient perusal - which i found quite lacking in all the ebooks i've downloaded so far.

Strip Clubs & Feminism
download epub version
A battle is being declared on London's strip clubs, with many council leaders insisting that no more should be allowed to open.
Feminist journalist Laurie Penny believes that more fundamental issues need to be addressed in the sex industry and banning lap-dancing clubs will not resolve these.
“We're not going bring down the patriarchy just by preventing new lap-dancing clubs," she said.” bbc

It was unfortunate that i didn’t hear about the protests yesterday, or else I would certainly have been down totting the old fisheye and telephoto. Anyway, there’s going to be a national demo on the 26th of March , 2011, called by the TUC, against the entire agenda of Lib-Con cuts and hikes. Let’s see if that raises enough brows amongst the toffs to cut the budget set aside for the maintenance of advantage and privilege instead of having the masses subsidise the continuing hegemony of the elite.

from the BBC. Comment follows.
“A record by the Royal British Legion featuring only silence is hoping to beat Take That to the number one spot this week. It reflects the immense power that - for many people - silence can wield, if only we stopped to listen.

Well, enough of singapore politics for now. Perhaps another review is necessary in another 5 years, or if the novelty of the situation calls for it.

Should convicted prisoners get the vote?
Thousands of convicted UK prisoners are to get the right to vote after the European Court of Human Rights (EHCR) ruled that the present ban was unlawful. Should all prisoners be allowed to vote?
The BBC understands the government has exhausted all legal avenues fighting the decision and has reluctantly accepted there is no way of upholding the 140-year-old ban.
