Popular culture from the 60s onward. What actually happened.
jh0nyzh3:
why the f**k i was born in 1998 ? , f**k im in the wrong generation
ed:
I was born in '69 and loved & lived the rebellious 80s era. People came up with lots of their own styles, music, ideas. Now, its been taken over by the corporation and the only obvious sign of 'rebellion' are those jeans that ill-defies the law of gravity. Quite a let down isn't it (pun intended).
However, i prefer the 70s and 60s as they were more advanced in radicalism. I like GnR, but i'm not going to fool myself into thinking that they can beat the old rockers like Led Zep, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison...

Warner Bros moves against unions in ‘Hobbit’ affair
In september, actors' unions in NZ threatened to boycott the Hobbit films over wages. Now, Warner Bros say, “The union’s actions had caused substantial damage” and are thus considering moving the filming to other locations even though the unions’ threat has been lifted.
Said Mr Key,
“The threat of industrial actions...have substantially undermined the confidence that Warner Bros has in New Zealand.”

So Nick Clegg likes Bowie...whoop-dee-doo!
(click image to see Nick's choices - source)
BBC Radio 4’s ‘Desert Island Discs’ plays music listened to by politicians? And the BBC gives prominence to Nick Clegg’s (UK’s DPM who, by the way, decided who was going to be the PM by his choice of whom he was forming a coalition government with) being partial to an occasional cigarette, Benny Hill, and Bowie. I suppose the effect would be not unlike the so-called Queen doing her bit to increase album sales by dishing out knighthoods to chart-toppers such as The Beatles and Elton John simply because they were chart-toppers. What? Grammy’s, millions of pounds, worship of the masses aren’t enough?

ZZ Top, MTV, and Modernity
Yeah. I love these guys. That’s what i call style. Off-the-beaten-track, don’t-give-a-crap-about-trends, assertive....in other words, ‘cool’.

BBC's 'Have your Say': Is philanthropy still important?
One of the richest couples in the world, the Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his wife Melinda, have pledged to give away 95 per cent of their fortune to aid projects. Do you welcome the support of philanthropists or should governments do more? - bbc
You could say that philanthropy is not unlike saying an 'our father' and '10 hail marys' as penance and then going out and doing what it takes to be given the same penance for absolution another day.

BBC's, 'Have your Say' : Does multiculturalism work?
ed's comment on BBC's 'Have your Say',
I am from Singapore, and there, multiculturalism has failed. Not because multiculturalism is necessarily prone to failure, but because one particular culture - legalism-confucianism - has been imposed upon all through the media, government policies, immigration policies, etc. Over time, the chinese have been bred to appreciate no other way of thought or action other than the imposed, and thereafter internalised, one. Hence, multiculturalism died the death without even a whimper.

How the UK is buggering itself with its racist immigration policy
As i had written in an earlier article, the British immigration policy, tied with the free movement of labour within the EU, is racist in consequence if not in intention. As the EU is far more ‘white’ than the rest of the world, and the rest of the world is less ‘white’ than the EU, allowing the free movement of labour within the EU is akin to keeping out the inhabitants of otro mundo even if they are more skilled.

My first DIY e-liquid, & thoughts on a safer EVI(e-cigs) experience
Finally made my first 'e-liquid'. Making e-liquid yourself is a great cost-saver. If you were to buy e-liquid in 30ml bottles, you will be basically paying 3 times more. And if you use e-liquid with 0mg nicotine content, you will be paying about 5 times more as sellers tend to charge the 0mg nic users the same amount as those purchasing nicotine-containing e-liquids. Talk about getting screwed.

Thai women on Singapore Airlines? Bring 'em on!
I read an article entitled, ‘Still a Singapore Girl?’, which asked if the mostly-thin-as- toothpicks waitresses sashaying in their girdles on Singapore Airlines ought to still be called ‘Singapore Girls’ given that SIA is recruiting Thai girls.

On Lee senior’s wife’s death
Personally, I don’t know the woman. What I do know is that she is the wife of Lee Kuan Yew, a confucian fascist. Though i am wondering if he has changed his stance now with the influx of new foreigners, but then again, we’ll have to see after some years if the proportion of citizenship given to China nationals significantly outnumbers those given to the non-Chinese. After all, he did state that ‘singapore must always be a nation with a chinese majority as they are hardworking and ‘pragmatic’, and worked hard to promote 'Chinese' culture over multiculturalism, and Mandarin as the unofficial language of the nation - both of which define him, as stated, a 'confucian fascist'.

ed demolishes the ‘sucking-harder danger of e-cigarettes' argument
“The new study from the University of California found that users have to suck much harder on e-cigs than on conventional tobacco ones. This creates "possible adverse effects on human health" because users are likely to suck much harder and inhale more nicotine -- the same problem of "compensatory smoking" which made so-called "light" cigarettes dangerous.” source - E-Cigarettes: New Potential Dangers For Users and a New Ban in Singapore
